Canon D10 Might Be the Perfect Shred Shooter

Canon has announced the Powershot D10 will be available in May for $330 and it may be the answer to my shred camera dreams.

This camera is unique in the Canon lineup because it’s waterproof to 33 feet, cold resistant from -14°F/-10°C and shockproof up to 4 feet. Waterproof, freezeproof, and shockproof add up to make it a great camera to take out snowboarding.

Olympus has had a Stylus Tough line out for awhile, which is similarly equipped in terms of being waterproof, freezeproof and shockproof. I bought one over a year ago just for snowboarding and I’ve always been disappointed by it. The photos it takes are not as clear as my Canon Elph SD550 and it’s pretty slow from when you click the shutter to when it takes the photo. So quite often I miss the shot when I’m trying to get my friends doing the perfect grab.

So I’m excited to check out the Canon D10. I hope it will be a combination of the ruggedness of a Olympus Stylus Tough series and the image quality and speed of a Canon Elph.

You know, I saw this camera when it debuted a few months ago, and I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, I have no doubt that it will take better pictures than the olympus line and a little competition and choice in this catagory is a good thing. On the other hand though, this thing was NOT designed to sit nicely in a pocket. It’s bulbous and overly large, with an extended lense protrusion that I would hate to have jab me in the ribs.

I think they really screwed up the design. But hey, multiple color options!!! :/

I haven’t seen one in person yet to really know how big it is. But this is supposedly a new serie” from canon so maybe the later models will be a bit more svelte.
