Snow and sunshine at Maverix summer camps

It’s possible. Very possible – thanks to Maverix’s plans for Les Deux Alpes this summer.

Powderroom caught up with Maverix founder James Streater and a couple of his coaches, Thom Boddington and Rachel Elliott, to get the low-down on still getting your snow fix when many Alpine resorts have gone into hibernation.

In short, the crew have commandeered a luxury chalet in the centre of resort for three weeks from June 13.

Just three minutes from the lift and near to all the shops and facilities (including that pool) that makes Deux Alpes such an appealing summer destination, the catered chalet has top-notch en-suite rooms, for two people or more.

Week one (for only £369) has a relaxed vibe. No formal coaching (more on that later), but plenty of mountain good times with like-minded people who are there for the ride.

From June 20, it steps up a gear when Maverix’s reputation for freestyle coaching comes into its own.

Priced from £454, these weeks will focus on giving riders the expertise and confidence to pull off the tricks they’ve been itching to nail all season.

Many people have benefited from Maverix’s courses at UK venues and James and his team will be taking the same approach in the great outdoors.

“A lot of people can feel intimidated, unsafe or under pressure to perform within freestyle parks, both within the UK and abroad,” said James.

“We aim to build peoples skills and confidence so they feel they can have fun and enjoy one of the best aspects of snowboarding.

“Some people are taking their first steps into freestyle and we want it to be fun and relaxing, with the reassurance that all riders are watched and guided by highly skilled and qualified coaches.”

And expect the unexpected.

Rather than throwing people in at the deep end, the team will quite literally have you jumping through hoops or bouncing on trampolines to boost skills and confidence in inventive ways.

Maverix will be running UK courses throughout the summer, but if you’ve keen to venture further afield more info about Deux Alpes is available at www.maverix.org
