New Year’s coolest event – the O’Neill SB-Jam – is returning to Davos in Switzerland from December 29th to January 1st.
The superpipe and slopestyle event is organised by O’Neill rider Dani Costandache and the final session of the contest takes place in the closing hours of the year – leading to a huge party and a heap of fireworks at ‘the bells’ (as us Scots like to call em!).
The Seattle TV station KING 5 TV has an interesting story on its website.¬†It says that¬†the Zumiez chain has pulled sales of the Bakoda McIver Driver snowboard tool following accusations from an alcohol and drug councellor that the tool kit can be used as a marijuana pipe. Northwave – which owns Bakoda – denies the claims and says that it does not condone or promote the use of drugs and is working to change the product’s design.

A new website has been launched to help snowboarders and skiers hook up with fellow snow fiends when they hit the slopes this season. Gotboard.com enables you to search for people who may be at the same resort as you on certain dates or find people to help fill apartments or chalets you’re planning to book. The Roxy Chicken Jam – which held its first all-girl slopestyle event in Austria last season – is expanding this year. Two events will be held – one in the US and one in Switzerland to give up and coming freestyle females the chance to compete against the World’s best ladies.
MGT Snowboard Camp has announced 2004-05 dates and venues for the upcoming season.¬† These camps are two-day freestyle snowboard camp for girls of all ages based out of Western Canada.
They offer¬†pro level coaching from super star shredders like: Alexis Waite, Erin Comstock, Ming Kao, Dominique Vallee, Leanne Pelosi, Joanna M, Amanda Mourant, Jody Wright, Vanessa Stark, and surprise guest coaches! New for this year is the ?íMega Gnarly Tricks amateur rail jam/slopestyle contest open to all ages, hosted by Grouse Mountain.
2004-05 Dates and Locations:
Burton’s Black Metal rail jams are back. Three events will be taking place this month on the United Kingdom’s indoor slopes. The participants will battle it out for places ay the Burton Europepean Open Rookie Event. There are three places in the slopestyle qualification available and Burton will fund your accomodation, lift pass and tickets for the final concert. The Europepean Open will be held in Laax, Switzerland, from January 15th to 22nd.

The first World Cup halfpipe contest of the season took place in Saas-Fee in Switzerland today. Hannah Teter took the opening World Cup crown over France’s Doriane Vidal. The US also took the men’s contest with Steven Fisher winning the title and the first 1000 points of the season.

A new women’s freeriding camp is being launched in Switzerland this season. It’s being run by freeride legend Pepi Ahonen, based in Graubuenden. Pepi has a mass of extreme freeriding experience including podium finishes in the the "king of the hill" in Valdez Alaska, the Rip Curl Heli Challenge in New Zealand, the Verbier Extreme and the Engadin Snow in Switzerland. The first camp will take place in early March and will include yoga and dance sessions with REAL01, wellness, slide shows and parties.

On Saturday, October 23rd, Burton held their annual closing party for the snowboard industry, friends of snowboarding and riders. The theme was ‚ÄúVegas‚Äù and unlike most of the BWT, everyone got to get dressed up.
