California’s Mountain High has joined the flurry of US mountains opening early this season. After a storm dropped 18 inches of snow overnight, the ON buttons on the mountain’s chairlifts were hit at noon today (Wednesday).
¬†‚ÄúWhen I went to bed it was fall and when I woke up it was winter.¬†You can‚Äôt believe the amount of snow that fell overnight,‚Äù said marketing director John McColly.
It’s the earliest that the mountain has ever opened – it usually doesn’t take its first skiers and snowboarders until November.
The final leg of the 2004 Orange AIM Series – the Artificial Slopestyle Championships – took place at Sheffield Ski Village at the weekend.
Arbor Snowboards have signed East Coast rider Colleen Quigley to their Ambassador Team.

The Burton World Tour (BWT) members ventured to "The OC" on October 22nd. The Orange County stops of Sports Chalet in Huntington Beach and the Active Ride Shop in Costa Mesa were the two last stops in the North American leg of the Tour before they head to Japan.

Mammoth in California opened for the first time this season on Wednesday. Keen skiers and snowboaders were queuing from 4am to take advantage of the earliest opening for ten years and the first uploads were rewarded with knee-deep first tracks. Mammoth currently has a base depth of three to four feet of machine groomed show. At least four lifts will be open this weekend.

The second Billabong World Junior Pro contest will take place at Les Deux Alpes in France from 1st – 5th March 2005.
This slopestyle contest is open to all international riders aged 20 and under. Qualifying competitions are taking place throughout winter around the World. At each stop, two riders will qualify through to the Billabong World Junior Pro.
Norwegian snowboard legend and ex World Champion Daniel Franck will make a rare appearance at the Sheffield Ski Village for the Orange AIM Series Artificial Snowboard Slopestyle Championships on Saturday 23rd October 2004. He‚Äôll be around to chat to competitors and spectators and hopefully inspire them to push their riding even more this season. He‚Äôll also be talking about his new project Franck Academy ‚Äì which is a snowboard camp he is holding at Oppdal, Norway from 6th ‚Äì 13th February.
The Orange AIM National Artificial Slopestyle Championships are taking place at Sheffield Ski Village over the weekend of 23rd and 24th October.
The slopestyle course will consist of moguls at the top of the course making way for the only artificial half pipe with an option of a small cliff drop. Then on to either the quarter pipe or the big air jump and the last features will be the demanding 7 metre flat to down rail and 4 metre double tubed rail. There’ll also be skier/boardercross and halfpipe jam contests.
The Boarding For Breast Cancer Foundation is holding a series of Board-A-Thons around the US this season.
Clothing company Habenero have signed Tamworth regular Kat Miller to join Team Habanero.
