Kelly Clark Repeats as Roxy Chicken Jam Halfpipe Champ

Kelly Clark continued her winning season by adding Roxy Chicken Jam Halfpipe Champ to her already long list. Clark is also in good position to claim the Swatch TTR World Champ title with a good performance in the slopestyle on Sunday.

“The title would be an amazing bonus to a really great season to me right now” said Kelly Clark.  “It would just be like icing on the cake.”

Earlier in the day the Superpipe Main Event Session determined the 12 riders that would compete in the finals.  TTR contender Kjersti Buass failed to qualify after pulling out of the competition following a flat landing.  Kelly Clark qualified first.

The halfpipe competition went down with warm, sunny conditions at Mammoth Mountain. The finals were in jam format.

In the finals Clark maintained her momentum by going bigger than any other woman in the competition. Her winning run was a Frontside Air, Backside 540 Mute, Frontside 540, Method, Frontside 720 and a Cab 720. It earned her $15,000 in prize money.

Canadians Mercedes Nicoll and Sarah Conrad rounded out the podium. Nicoll's top run was a Frontside Air, Backside 540, Frontside 720, Cab 360 and a Backside 720. Conrad's winning run was a Method, Frontside 540, Backside 540, Air-to-Fakie, Cab 540 and a Switch Alley-Oop 540. Lisa Wiik, currently in 2nd place in TTR rankings, kept her TTR chances alive by placing 5th.

The slopestyle inals get underway on Sunday. It will be an exciting day as the outcome will determine the TTR World Champ. Jamie Anderson, who is not competing, is still in first but Kelly Clark, Kjersti Buass, Cheryl Maas, and Lisa Wiik could usurp her with a good performance in the slopestyle.
