Volcom's 2009 Peanut Butter & Rail Jam Championships

Last weekend Volcom held the 2009 Peanut Butter and Rail Jam Championships at Mammoth Mountain. The invite only event was open to competitors who placed 1st through 5th at one of the many qualifier stops this season.

The contest kicked off with qualifiers for the 15 & Under Division, followed by 16 & Over, then the Ladies', and lastly the Men's Open Division. The set up was basic and allowed for total domination by the competitors: pole jam to down box, down-flat-down rail, flat to down lift tower, and a barrel stall at the bottom.

The crowd was psyched as the riders really went for it. It wasn't uncommon to see BS 270s onto the rail, 360s off the pole jam to the down box, and 180/270 outs dominated.

As always Volcom provided all the ingredients for peanut butter and jelly sandwich making. Little did they know how quickly the food would move among these hungry riders and supporters. Not to let anyone down, Volcom quickly ordered what must have been 40 pizzas. The crowd was stoked.

The top 20 riders from each division then advanced onto the finals of the finals where a 20 minute jam took place for each group. Once again the riders really sent it and impressed the happy crowd. We saw plenty of lipslides down the entire 32 feet of lift tower, gaps to the final down of the rail, and it was pure swivel mania on the down box. It's easy to say that I was happy that I wasn't a judge as none of the winners were clearly defined.
While the judges tallied the scores Volcom did a product toss to the happy crowd. And finally it was results time, Volcom came prepared with lots of swag and cash to be awarded...
