Aussie season to start five weeks early

The Australian snow season usually starts in June but Mt Buller are opening this weekend - an incredible five weeks early. The resort has a 35cm (14 inch) base to open with.

This is the earliest Mt Buller has ever opened. The closest was 45 years ago when it opened on May 16 in 1964.

A lift ticket will cost $20 which includes access to the new six-seat Holden Express chairlift. Season passes are also valid.

No other resorts in the area have announced plans to open early, although Mt Hotham has recently received 40cm of new snow and recorded Victoria's coldest temperature ever in -8ºC.
