Student shows breast cancer awareness snow designs at degree show

Students all over the world are handing in their final projects - and more than a few end up snowboard-related these days.

One art student - Stacey Galfskiy - is currently exhibiting at the Dundee Degree Show in Scotland. She's drawing on her love of snowboarding to develop a range of designs aimed at increasing breast cancer awareness as part of her Illustration BA Honours degree.

"My project was based around my concerns that many young women believe that only old ladies get breast cancer or are too scared to find a lump that they don't check," she explains.

"I have a passion for snowboarding so I used this to create a range of merchandise that would directly educate the buyer as they were wearing the item. The imagery used was based on the US statistic that one in eight women will develop breast cancer at some point in their lives. Therefore, for every eight pairs of boobs, I have scored out one pair to symbolise this. I wanted my merch to be fun and educational as I discovered through research that scare tactics just don't work on young women."

You can see Stacey's designs at the degree show until June 6 at the Vision Building, Seabraes, Greenmarket, Dundee, DD1 4QB. It's open Monday to Friday 9.30am to 8.30pm and Saturday and Sunday 9.30 am to 4.30pm. The last day is Saturday June 6 when the exhibition will close at 2pm.

We're sure that Stacey isn't the only student out there working on exciting snow related projects. If you or anyone you know has managed to incorporate their love of snow into their studies please let us know in a comment below!
