Australian snow resorts open with a snowy weekend
The Aussie snow season has kicked off this long weekend with some early snowfalls, which hopefully can only mean good things for the season ahead.
Down in Victoria, there has been some great falls, with 15cm reported at Mt. Buller, up in New South Wales they have had a little more with Perisher reporting 21cm in the last 24hrs. Its seems the forecast is good and the snow is still falling, building a good base early on. With snowfall predicted through til Wednesday, I think I may be getting a little excited, the maiden voyage for my new snowboard is not far off...
It seems we are not alone and if anything, we are lagging behind our other Southern Hemisphere buddies down in New Zealand. They have reported some amazing falls already with some resorts open already. Mt. Hutt opened at the end of last month and Coronet Peak opening yesterday it looks like it may be the bumper year they have been looking for. Cardrona already has a one metre base which is fantastic, however will not be open for another couple of weeks. It seems the North island is getting in on the action too with Mt. Ruapehu opening up two weeks early.
That's all for now...I am off to start planning some snow adventures.
