Nikita collaborates with artists for new season's range

Nikita have been working with a range of artists for the new autumn/winter collection so we asked the crew in Iceland to tell us a little about their new friends...

AXEL PEEMOELLER

Axel is not a new character to the Nikita fold. His designs have been seen in previous Nikita collections, like ‘The Sun is up and I’m so Busy Fizzy that I could Burst’ line featured in SS09.  His style is not something that can be categorised, it changes depending on what he is doing, sometimes playful and at other times more straight and strong.  He sees design in conjunction with art, creating visual stimulation with thought.

Axel began drawing from a young age, which developed into painting and then design.  Seeing everyday things can be an inspiration, a starting block which leads to something more interesting.  “I guess I can say I’m adventurous and love to experience new things.  I can enjoy many things, so through all my experiences and people I meet; I have been getting my influences”.

SUNE EHLERS (A.K.A DUUDLE)

Illustrator, Art Director, Father and Fruit Eater, Sune Ehlers is one sound guy.  In one word, he describes his style as ‘doodles’.  His approach is loose and intuitive, like a doodle and purposely goes for a messy look, “illustrations that one can get lost in”.

He says that his two kids are a constant source of inspiration for him; it’s their naivety, sense of adventure and wonderment about the world surrounding them.  It’s that, which he tries to imitate in his illustrations.  He hopes that his work ignites the audience’s own imagination.  In his contributions to Nikita for FW09/10, he imagined a world completely constructed by red, yellow and blue Lego pieces.

There’s a whole world of Duudle to explore with a grand smile.

MAGGI NOEM

Graphic Designer Maggi Noem combines bitmap graphics and graffiti, his style being colourful, simple but strong.  He doesn’t see himself as traditionally into graphic design in the classical sense as his interests also expand into painting walls and fashion.  Creating letters and patterns is another fascination so making designs for clothes brings together those combined interests.

Maggi has always been a big fan of old computer games, hence his love of bitmap style.  He progressed into design through graffiti, which has been a part of his life over the last ten years.  It’s hard not to imagine his work being inspired by the power that graffiti has and he definitely considers it one of his biggest influences.

In designing artwork for Nikita, Maggi wanted to do something colourful and powerful that would suit the whole vibe of the label, keeping it simple but still graphic.
