MGT Snowboard camp at Grouse Mountain wraps up
The MGT Snowboard camp crew sent us this write up of the two-day all girl’s camp they held at Grouse Mountain, North Vancouver at the weekend:
30cm – 40cm fell each night during this past weekend at Grouse Mountain in North Vancouver. Vancouver’s metamorphosis into a snow-cave resulted in a pillow party for what is usually strictly a terrain park camp.
MGT Snowboard Camp coaches Marie-France Roy, Leanne Pelosi, Raewyn Reid, Robin Van Gyn and Joanna Majcherkiewicz had campers throwing themselves off any feature producing some heavy bails and first time pillow and cliff experiences.
The JIB!JUMP!JAM! that takes place during the last hour of the two-day camp had campers throwing their hardest tricks yet and the progression earned riders prizes from Burton, ThirtyTwo, Etnies, Dragon, Dakine, Runway Films and Snowboard Canada Magazine.
It was also a platform for the MGT Academy candidates to showcase their skills in front of all the coaches. The MGT Academy is a fast(er) track to a snowboard career. The program is designed to select one promising MGT camper and place them under the tutorial wing of the MGT pro coaches to give a head start on pursuing a snowboard career in 2010.
This camp at Grouse was the first round of selection for MGT ACADEMY and acceptance letters were sent to Marie-Andre Racine, Shelly Julio (or Hoolio for short), and Jenna-Mae Togado.
The trio has also earned a spot in the Roxy Chickadee Jam at Grouse Mountain on March 1, 2009 where their park skills will be quizzed in preparation for the MGT Academy final exam in the summer.
Congrats to the enrolled girls and best of luck capitalizing on your opportunity!
The next round of MGT Acadcemy, and MGT Camp, will be April 4-5 at Mount Norquay in Banff, Alberta.
With all-star coaches in tow (with a special guest coach appearance by Tara Dakides) and a park cut by none other than the great
Jeff Patterson, MGT is busting to drop in on Alberta’s most progressive terrain park and - wait for it - the more good times that will ensue.
