Back in August I did a blog post on a pair of Balenciaga shoes that were obviously inspired by snowboard bindings. Well if you were dying for them but didn't want to spend $3600, now you can buy the Steve Madden knock offs for $100. They aren't quite so binding-y though.

I don't know about you, but when the winter months come around my hands dry up.  Snowboarding is especially hard on them, and nothing drives me crazier than hang nails. I end up pulling them off and getting bloody fingers in process and I'm not even a nail biter!

So in my drugstore shopping addiction I came across Burt's Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream. I already love their lip balms, so I figured I'd give it a try.

This stuff is awesome. It comes in a small tin so you can keep it in your handbag and put some on at least once a day. I haven't had a bloody finger since! It's supposed to make your nails stronger too (another winter problem) and it's smells lovely. Plus it's made from natural stuff and only costs $6.

PS If you do have hangnails, a nail clipper works great to snip them off.

I noticed this a few weeks ago online and forgot to post it...these will be like gold dust...

Nixon has released another LTD Collection which this year is a group of limited edition watches made entirely of skateboards and snowboards from some of the sports best athletes including: Tony Hawk, Danny Way, Danny Davis, Romain DeMarchi and others.

Limited to 500 pieces worldwide, these one-of-a-kind, handcrafted watches are created through a labor intensive process which includes planing the boards top sheets down to .4mm. The plies, which include the boards graphics, are then individually die-cut and inlaid by hand into Nixon’s Rotolog and Chalet links. Case and link plating options include black, gunmetal, gold, antique silver, antique brass and blue metallic finishes and are topped off with custom engraved casebacks which bear the LTD logo, the athlete’s name, number in edition and the collection year.

Due to the nature of the process, each piece is unique, with no two watches alike. Distribution is limited to select skate and snowboard specialty shops and all watches will be available November 15, retailing between $399 and $499 USD.

This year’s collection was created from the board graphics of:

Skate: Tony Hawk, Ryan Sheckler, Danny Way, Paul Rodriguez, Bob Burnquist, Colin McKay, JB Gillet

Snow: Danny Davis, Todd Richards, Romain DeMarchi, Gigi Ruf, Jeremy Jones, JP Solberg

See http://www.nixonnow.com/ltd/ for some pics and more info.

Kris Lovett decided to recycle skate decks into women's shoes for her (his?) senior project at University of Arts.  The results are kinda awesome.

"the blazer" from Balenciaga's Fall 2007 Collection
A few months ago we posted about a pair of Balenciaga shoes that were obviously inspired by snowboarding bindings. So it seems somewhat appropriate that these days you can take some on snow style cues from Balenciaga - and for much less than you'd pay for high fashion.

686_bal.jpg
686 Ace Taylor Jacket and Smarty Pants in Mocha
One of the biggest "IT" fashion pieces for the fall was this school-boy inspired blazer from Balenciaga. With a price around $2500 and extremely limited availability, it was an impossible-to-find must-have. So of course it got knocked off by everyone from J.Crew to TopShop. However what's really interesting to me is that you can now take this look from the runway to the slopes.

The 686 Ace Taylor Jacket has simple lines, similar pockets, silver buttons and, most importantly, the bold white trim. At just $260 it's a tenth of the price of the Balenciaga jacket.

Pair this with some khaki pants and silk scarf, faux fur stole, and you'll be rocking the runway look. I would also skip the weird white eyemakeup and just wear some white goggles.

OK, maybe that's a bit much. However, since, in my eyes, snowboard fashion has always been a few season behind designer fashion it's intiguing to find that you can get the same looks.

I'm going to keep my eye out for other ways to create runways looks on the slopes. Stay tuned!

So what do you think about high fashion on the slopes?

Well my fave beanie makers Coal have launched a more fashion focused range of fedoras and military style hats along with some unique beanies etc. The new range is called Coal Considered

"Where design meets classic style. This is not your father's hat. It's as unique as you are. Not only has every detail been "considered" but so has the unique way you wear it."

I have to give all the credit to our community member Bob for this one, but it needed to be shared with the world.

Check out these shoes from Balenciaga's Fall 2007 collection. Somebody on their design team has got to be a snowboarder.

From the ankle and toe strap to the detail onthe heels everything on these shoes scream binding! The materials like the mesh, aluminum, and brightly colored plastic are all things you'd find on binding these days. The black ones even have a cap strap!

I can't find them listed in any US stores but in the UK they cost £1820 which these days is over $3600! I know we've seen snowboarding and high fashion overlap before, but never quite like this. Although I guess when you are wearing heels that high you really could use a highback.

There’s nowt like being organised for the start of the season – and getting your skincare products sorted now could save you a few quid.

Tesco’s entire sunscreen range is half-price until Sunday – and there are loads of products you could find useful on your winter snow travels.

The range includes Sun Protection Sticks – including one with an SPF of 40 which costs £2.99 full price (and obviously half of that this week).

There are also waterproof Ultimate Sun Protection Sprays (£3) and a Tesco Finest Sun Protection Lotion for the Face (SPF 15 or 25) at just £4 before discount.

At those prices it’s worth sticking some in your snowboard bag for winter – it ain’t that far away you know!
