Torah Bright gets her own postage stamp

Posted by & filed under pro riders.

Winning Olympic gold has earned Torah Bright much more than a gold medal and a bunch of flowers – she’s now got her own postage stamp. The limited edition 55 cent stamp was rushed out by Australia Post following her halfpipe victory in Vancouver.

“Torah has become our fourth ever Olympic Winter gold medallist and we are proud to honour her through the production of this stamp,” said Australia Post’s Group Manager of Philatelic, Mr Noel Leahy.

Hannah Teter & Claire Bidez Show Some Skin in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue

First Hannah Teter got dressed up in designer duds for Glamour and now she’s stripped down to a bikini for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. The Olympian is featured with 3 other blondes inlcuding skiers Lindsey Vonn, Lacy Schnoor and snowboarder Claire Bidez in the spread called "Olympic Stars".  Ironically Bidez did not qualify for the Olympic team.

You can see the whole photo shoot on the Sports Illustrated site and check out the teaser videos below.

Does Torah Bright Have a Double Cork?

Posted by & filed under pro riders.

The New York Times has an article today about Torah Bright and her Olympic aspirations. She placed 5th in the 2006 Turin Olympics.

One of the most interesting parts of the article is about Torah working on a double cork for her pipe runs. The double cork has become the must-have trick this season. That a woman might be breaking one out would be a huge sign in the progression of women’s snowboarding – and certainly set Tora Bright, who has long been known for her technical tricks, apart from the other women riders.

We’ll be eagerly watching X-Games this week to see if she breaks it out before the Olympics.

Olympians Get the Glamour Treatment

Glamour has a four page spread with Gretchen Bleiler, Kelly Clark, Lindsey Jacobellis and Hannah Teter in the February 2010 issue.  I knew they were doing a shoot with some of the 2006 Olympians (and 2010 Olympic hopefuls), as Gretchen Bleiler had tweeted about it a few months ago. It’s called the Great Olympic Glam-Up. You can check it out online or in the magazine scans below.

Ten questions with Kimmy Fasani

As if being a professional snowboarder weren’t enough, 25-year-old Kimmy Fasani has a BS in Marketing and a pet Terrier to boot. Not only that, but her recent performance on producer Stan Evans and director Jeremy Miller’s STANCE – a new snowboarding flick with an all female cast – leaves fans begging for more.

Lucky for us, we’ve yet to see everything the DC sponsored, California native’s got hidden in her arsenal. Kimmy’s coveted fearlessness is steering her in new directions, and it looks as though backcountry’s where it’s at.
