Winning Olympic gold has earned Torah Bright much more than a gold medal and a bunch of flowers – she’s now got her own postage stamp. The limited edition 55 cent stamp was rushed out by Australia Post following her halfpipe victory in Vancouver.
“Torah has become our fourth ever Olympic Winter gold medallist and we are proud to honour her through the production of this stamp,” said Australia Post’s Group Manager of Philatelic, Mr Noel Leahy.
First Hannah Teter got dressed up in designer duds for Glamour and now she’s stripped down to a bikini for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. The Olympian is featured with 3 other blondes inlcuding skiers Lindsey Vonn, Lacy Schnoor and snowboarder Claire Bidez in the spread called "Olympic Stars". Ironically Bidez did not qualify for the Olympic team.
One of the most interesting parts of the article is about Torah working on a double cork for her pipe runs. The double cork has become the must-have trick this season. That a woman might be breaking one out would be a huge sign in the progression of women’s snowboarding – and certainly set Tora Bright, who has long been known for her technical tricks, apart from the other women riders.
We’ll be eagerly watching X-Games this week to see if she breaks it out before the Olympics.
Glamour has a four page spread with Gretchen Bleiler, Kelly Clark, Lindsey Jacobellis and Hannah Teter in the February 2010 issue. I knew they were doing a shoot with some of the 2006 Olympians (and 2010 Olympic hopefuls), as Gretchen Bleiler had tweeted about it a few months ago. It’s called the Great Olympic Glam-Up. You can check it out online or in the magazine scans below.
Ben & Jerry’s has just released a new limited batch flavor – Hannah Teter’s Maple Blondie. It’s described as "Maple Ice Cream with Blonde Brownie Chunks & a Maple Caramel Swirl".
Teter also sells Hannah’s Gold maple syrup through her non profit foundation that benefits poor communities in Kenya.
Maple Blondie will only be available for a limited time, so grab one fast and let us know how it is. But with 960 calories in a pint, we suggest sharing with friends so that your snowboarding pants will still fit.
Remember last spring when we told you about the private half pipe that Red Bull was building Shaun White at Silverton? Well it was all true. It’s called Project X and here is the latest video. You can see more about Red Bull Project X at http://www.redbullprojectx.com/.
Well not content with dominating Men’s halfpipe competition, Shaun White has gone another step further, teaming up with Red Bull to create a really intriguing new project. Red Bull Project X is a new movie coming out in 2010, featuring Shaun and a secret halfpipe in Silverton, Colorado.
This guy really does have it all….check out the latest clip here
As if being a professional snowboarder weren’t enough, 25-year-old Kimmy Fasani has a BS in Marketing and a pet Terrier to boot. Not only that, but her recent performance on producer Stan Evans and director Jeremy Miller’s STANCE – a new snowboarding flick with an all female cast – leaves fans begging for more.
Lucky for us, we’ve yet to see everything the DC sponsored, California native’s got hidden in her arsenal. Kimmy’s coveted fearlessness is steering her in new directions, and it looks as though backcountry’s where it’s at.
JP Solberg will be hanging out with the TSA crew at the Metro Ski & Snowboard Show at London’s Olympia. He’ll be at their shop/stand on October 22-23 – so if you’ve got any questions for him and the new board venture he founded with David Carrier Porcheron and Romain de Marchi – Yes Snowboards – then drop by and say hello.
