Anne-Flore Marxer: King of the Hill

Posted by & filed under snowboard events.

Anne-Flore Marxer just sent us this blog post about her trip to Alaska for the King of the Hill. Be sure to check out her photo gallery at the bottom!

A couple weeks back I saw Travis Rice at European Xgames who told me all about Nick Perata and Mark Sullivan organizing the King of the Hill again after 10 years off. He told me I should show up. A couple days later I contacted Perata and a week later, I was arriving in Valdez in an RV to shred those amazing mountains!

Kelly Clark added another win to her impressive list this season at the third annual Cover Girl Snow Angels Invitational.  The unique event, hosted by Aspen Snowmass and Gretchen Bleiler, brings together some of the top women riders. It’s not only a competition, as the ladies get to enjoy extra activites like yoga and spa sessions.

From Laax with love

It’s a few days since I got back from Laax and I’ve now had just about enough sleep to feel human again.

The Animal Rock Night on Friday was an absolute epic.  There were fluro spandex trousers, lycra swimsuits, fur coats and oodles of eyeliner – and that was just the men. There was a monster moshpit, people dangling from the ceiling and more home-made tattoos than you’d see in your average top security prison. A legendary night.

Kelly Clark and Jamie Anderson Win at Roxy Chicken Jam

Some of the top female snowboarders in the world gathered at Mammoth Mountain last weekend for the Roxy Chicken Jam.  Riders were competing, not just to win the Chicken Jam, but to be named the Ticket To Ride Global Champ.

Kelly Clark kept up her strong season with another win. Clark dominated in the pipe with her signature big amplitude and a frontside 900 to frontside 720 to cab 720 in her run.  Japan’s Rana Okada took second, and Elena Hight took third.  Clark also won the Zumiez Best Trick award for her frontside 900.

Day 4: Twists and turns in the British Halfpipe Championships

Twas a late night for some on Wednesday, with the Urban Knights VJ dirty, grimy session keeping people in the Indy Bar til late. But others (including me) were up and at em for the halfpipe contest this morning. I always feel a bit sorry for the female and younger male riders as their practice and qualifier rounds take place early in the morning – not good if you’ve had a late night.
