Ever wondered what it would be like to combine your wedding day with your other great love – snowboarding?

Australian snowboarders Yvette and Carl did just that recently when they tied the knot in Thredbo. We go the lowdown on their snowy big day….

When and how did you and your man meet?

Wow what a story - Carl and I actually met via a $10 bet. As I lived in Jindabyne, my girlfriends came down for the Winter Opening weekend in 2007. They got me to organize a babysitter for my son Zac, as they were taking me out for dinner and drinks - no ifs or butts about it.

Anyway there we are having dinner with a gazillion other snow fanatics (two of my girlfriends are skiers and then the other two of us snowboarders) and then walks in this guy wearing a "Skiers Suck" t-shirt.. Steph and I (the boarders) were stoked, Suse and Kati (the skiers) mortified.

Turns out he knew someone on our table and headed over, we started chatting about the t-shirt and Kati leant over and bet me $10 I couldn't get the t-shirt. Kati and Suse spent the night trying to make him leave before I could get it. Obviously I did, when he rang to get it back, we went out for dinner and the rest..... is just beginning

Where did you get married and how did you choose the location and the venue?

We chose the Mary Mackillop Chapel at Thredbo, Carl and I both worked at Thredbo together last season, and I have worked their previously.

You went snowboarding after the ceremony. How did you find snowboarding in a wedding dress?

Haha it was the funniest thing I think I’ve ever done. It was crazy. I felt like the biggest Kook (uncoordinated). My mum was stressing out and freaking at me about, as she thought I would ruin the dress.

Did you have to get on any lifts or tows? If so how was that!?

Because of the lack of snow, there was only a carpet running at Thredbo, so that was pretty easy. Very slow though.

Did you get many funny looks on the slopes?

Oh my God you would not believe it. We had cars stopping as we crossed the road. My photographer has this great shot of the stunned look within the car. Everybody stopped and laughed and clapped it was great.  We knew all the staff that worked on the lifts, so that was fantastic. They were so happy for us.

Who is the better snowboarder - you or your husband?

Carl and I have such different styles, I class myself as the park monkey and Carl a freerider. However on that note It was Carl that stacked on our wedding day.

How did you come up with the idea for your cake and who made it?

Truth be told a friend of mine married last year and she had something similar. We threw in the rail for me!

We heard your nuptials even landed you on TV - how did that come about?

Being opening weekend there was media down there. Thredbo themselves asked if they could take some photos, and then there was Channel 10 with a  video camera.

Did you get any help or support from the resort?

We didn't actually ask. There was very little snow, so we just utilized what we could. If there had of been more options then yes I think we would have approached them.

Do you think snowboarding will be a big part of your married life?

Oh most definitely, that's what led us to meeting. We have even postponed our honeymoon until February so that we can go snowboarding in Japan for two weeks.

Thanks to John Chandler for the photos of Yvette and Carl's big day.
