Winter 2011/12 Where is everybody planning on riding?!
So where is everybody planning on riding this winter? At the moment I'm in two minds whether or not to book somewhere now or save my pennies up and book a last minute deal wherever the snow hits? Decisions, decisions!
I'm looking at doing the same - wait till last minute and see where I end up! Got my eye on Chamonix, but already booked for Mayrhofen / Snowbombing in April! woo hoo!! :)
was looking at Cham. but it turned out to be a bit too expensive.. got a chalet recommended in courcheval for £275 catered for the week.. hope the snow is good in europe this season is was a bit lame in andorra lin feb. i felt sorry for the rental board as there was some huge stones i didnt see until it was too late !!!
got my own board this year and carving up the base because of stones would not be groovy..
I'm definitely doing trips to Colorado and Tahoe this winter. I also hope to get to Utah to ride and see some friends.
austria of course and i'd also like to go to france, switzerland, italy or slovenia this year... depends on the snow conditions.
Where in Austria you off to? We've only been to Mayrhofen and going back again, but really like Austria(ns) in general so would def consider elsewhere - would love to do St Anton!
well, since we live in austria, we're going to do lots of weekend trips which we haven't planned out yet.
our first longer trip will be to the großglockner (heiligenblut) for new years. we would also like to go to east tyrol, probably to the kitzsteinhorn again, maybe fieberbrunn, bad hofgastein / bad gastein / sportgastein... we'll see :)
our main focus is freeriding and touring, so we will plan our trips accordingly. i'm also interested in going to slovenia/italy.
i've been to mayrhofen twice - i personally didn't like it too much, the resort is rather crowded and the town is very focussed on drinking tourists... we're more interested in quiet/calm spots. the funpark is ace though, aswell as the snowboard shops.
arlberg is one of my dream destinations too, but it's just SO expensive... one of my co-workers told me she might be able to get free passes, that would be awesome. if that works out, i'm sure we'll be going there.
Come work in switerland plenty of shred time
That would be a dream come true! what resort?! do you guys require people with previous experience etc?
saroogi i jus sent you a message
Thinking Gressoney, hear it's awesome freeride! Not enough hols to go back to Canada which is what I wanted to do originally, boo! Well, not without restricting myself to just one snowfuntimeholiday anyway...nah!
The other one will be somewhere in Europe probably, not decided where, as long as it's good for all levels as this will be the group holiday - did Cham one year with a big group and a lot of peeps found it tough
Would love to go back to Austria actually - only been to Kaprun but there was something veeeery cool about Austria...
my ridings going to be at Chill Factor Manchester and the ski dome in Dubai (there next month), got my holidays used already for next year and theres none left for snowboarding
Bummer, I'd be so narked if I couldn't go riding :( But on the plus side, you get to go to Dubai right? Enjoy!
well i hope so, i've not been on my board for 2.5yrs so im dying to go but i dont think they got lessons on the days im there and im not confident enough to go on the slopes without a lesson but we'll see!!!
So, instead of waiting for a last minute deal, I got a tax rebate through and booked flights to Calgary for Dec 28th for 11 days!! Going back to my spiritual home of Fernie and planning to do Banff, Lake Louise and maybe Revelstoke if I have time!! 58 days and counting!
Stuck again at Baker being a ski instructor, will try to catch some day/weekend trips to Hood, Stevens, Whistler and if I can save enough $ for the train ride with some friends in SLC. Really excited about doing my senior project by training with and hopefully get to go with Baker's ski patrol on some early morning avy recon (they had a big article in october's Powder mag). However I'm determined to be on my board more than 1.5 days this year. We are hoping for another good winter...repeat La Nina...857 inches (2176 cm) last year
. Have alread been up skinning last Sat and plan on going again this Sat.
"Stuck again at Baker" haha that sounds aweful. :P
Plan to ride all over Washington deep in the hills far from the ski lifts :D
I wanna ride in Washington! I'm in Portland! Where can I get the most for my money?
Tignes le brev! got some friends who stay there every year! can't wait!!! going there in feb and worked for a company there last year so had accommodation included in the wage so have to find something cheapish this year. My friend stayed in a good place that she found on http://www.wimdu.co.uk/ but i also looked on http://www.gumtree.com I'm pretty useless at this stuff so if anyone has any information about a good and reasonably priced place/company/website please let me know/. We'll be driving too so it doesn't have to be in Tignes le brev exactly. Thanks!
Hey buttersnow, working in switzerland sounds awesome. is that offer still going? if so, i'd love to know some more details! I hope this season will be better than last in europe, i was thinking arlberg, i was in st anton 2 years ago and that was amazing.
well im back from thailand and dubai and i saw ski dubai, omg, its huge, its got button lifts and chairlifts which for an indoor ski dome is mega, shame i didn't have time to go boarding (was too busy spending my money haha) but suffice to say i will go to dubai to ski
I've seen photos of Ski Dubai and it looks totally insane!
This winter's going to be my first season boarding, going to Les Arcs in January for a week, can't wait!
Yes, i've seen some picks of Ski Dubai, it's unbelievable! they have trees inside! it looks massive. Have fun in Les Arcs, it's a bit flat though so if this is your first season boarding choose your runs carefully so that you build up some speed!

WOOO!! Hey girls! I'm riding all over Mt. Hood this year with a fusion pass for weekly stoke and some extra days here and there for fun at Meadows. Anyone out there ride Mt. Hood too? Let's roll together!

I'm mostly hitting VT this winter. Killington, Stowe, Stratton, Sugarbush and Okemo! Who's going to VT?

As far as the most for your money in bounds in WA, Crystal is killer for pow. As is Baker (KILLER backcountry) and White Pass. If you're a park rider, the Summit at Snoqualmie will rock your world (but I wouldn't suggest it for anything else). If you want super fun groomers, fun terrain, pow, park, etc. Stevens Pass is for you. Oh, and if you want steep steep steep, check out Alpental. :)
Ski Dubai is a great concept until you realize how much fuel they burn to run it (3500 barrels of oil PER DAY), and that effect on the environment and skiing natural snow... As snow riders, we should really do everything in our power to save the snow we have for as long as we possibly can. You can learn more on being a consious rider at ProtectOurWinters.org . I hope they find a better way to run it soon!
Im riding in Serre Chevalier as of tomorrow, can't wait! Hoping to head to Kaprun late March too :) The snow was dreadful last year, fingers crossed it's better.
im planning to go to courcheval in france early jan followed by andorra in march.. may also get in a session in scotland if the snow is good enough
