I tend to categorize them a little differently:
Beginner: Someone learning to snowboard
Intermediate: Someone who is pretty good, and can ride any run with skill but mostly rides park
Advanced: Someone who rides any run with skill and style, and plenty of speed, and spends most of their time in powder. Out of bounds, backcountry.
From my teaching experience I would say:
Intermediate: someone who can ride green/blue and red terrain regular and switch - do basic ollies nollies and some ground buttering, 50-50 boxes and ride through a pipe (just turning). A basic straight air with solid grabs over a 3-4 meter table with 180's off cat tracks etc building up to 360s.
Advance: riding everything up to black runs (double diamond for those across the pond), off piste etc - stick solid front and back 3's over a 4 meter table top, various tricks on rails boxes etc switching it up and getting a good 2-3 foot out of the pipe easily on both walls.
Once at this level riders tend to excel in one discipline more than another, say riding pipe as oppose to off piste.
I also like to add another group in between beginner and intermediate, and call it 'improvers' which fills the gap nicely.
Improvers: working up to red runs, with basic switch on greens, trying out their first 50-50's a ollies / nollie and small kickers.
