Jump Britain!
Holy cow was anybody else watching Channel 4 last night!! There was a show on the new urban sport of Parkour! It was insane!!
The show basically followed the Brits along with the creator of parkour (french guy called Sebastian, who was more like a cat than man!!) around the UK jumping/free running across several landmarks across the UK! Such as Forth bridge, Birmingham NIA, Edingburgh castle plus a few more!
One of the more mental moments for me was Sebastian running across the Millennium stadium roof in Cardiff and then jumping across a gap in the retractable roof!! The footage of the whole show was pretty mad but the clip of seeing him leaping the gap from pitch side looking up to the roof was 'wooooooooahhhh'!
Anyway it got me thinking have any of you tried Free runninng? I've slide down bannisters before! All be it drunk! but hey apparently that the early basics of free running! Oh and whenever there are small bollards i try to jump from one ot the other! Anybody else see it or even tried it??
i watched that. I WANNA DO IT
they were so skilled, it's true what they said that at the base level anyone could do it, but did you see how they were throwing themselves about in the gym?
I loved the bit in Northern Ireland and the bit in Newcastle, on top of the Baltic.
We should start our own team, powderroom parkour...start small jumping off kerbs and the like
ace prog. The last prog I saw didn't say that it's official name was Parkour, they just called it free running.
qwidgeebo - instead of following in their footsteps, we could invent our own sport - say... free-rolling? Where we forward roll over obstacles and through city centres! I'd love to see us forward roll across the the moving gap that was the Millenium stadium's roof!
oh good plan.
i'm practising by forward rolling in my livingroom now!
he he, i saw it too! maybe we could build it into our waterpolo training kt!
the basic elements (from what I could tell watching) of parkour are to do with a lot of core strength, balance, landing technique and i suppose bravado! after the programme had finished my bro and i tried a spot of parkour round the living room.... and he could straight away do lots of the lifts and swingy round things (the bugger) cos he's strong and got really good core stability... as snowboarders then we should have a good ammount of it too (honest) cos of using stomach muscles ets etc to blance and jump and stuff when we're on our boards.... in a way we all parkour as we head down the mountain, lookin for things to jump off and stuff, slide along (if that's what floats your boat) or simply the best route down the mountain.... or tamworth slope :D he he it's just that we're attatched to a piece of 'wood'!
the training camp thing looked good fun too... if not only to be surrounded by the lovely men wid fit bods! (sorry blokey xxx)
it did look absolutely fab, bit too much running though if you ask me, wanted to see some more jumps and spinny things, but the main thing i couldn't stop thinking about was how they get people to insure them for doing it! sebastian was fantastic though... and they're even making it into a computer game! the guy in the cowboy hat looked really funky...
i might just try is next time i'm in birmingham city centre... but i bet i get chucked out the buildings though!
Darn... I missed it! :( probably cos my telly died yesterday :(
Was this the stuff? http://gprime.net/video.php/hopphopp
