I am new to snowboarding. I have been snowboarding twice, one in Dec and a few days ago. I rented equipment once from the resort and the other time I rented from my local ski shop. I've decided I would like to buy my own gear but the problem is my size. I am overweight, I already know that finding the perfect board for my 5'4 238lbs frame will be nearly impossible. At one resort they gave me a 145cm board! My local ski shop said that was terrible. The ski shop  said for my weight i would need a 160cm board but the board is as tall if not taller than me. The ski shop gave me a 151cm board which I used and did pretty well with. The ski shop says 160cm is a lot of board for a beginner. I looked into the burton me nug at 150cm since its designed to be ridden shorter... the other options I saw was the burton bullet and clash 160cm. Should I stick with a 151cm board or go to 160cm... or am I just screwed either way?

I'm not too firmiliar with either the bullet or the clash but I would try to find someone who has them and try them out. You could try a board that someone else has and love and you could absolutely hate it. Everyone's body and style of riding is different so it's really all about personal preferrence in my opinion. It sounds to me like you should try to get a board that you can ride a bit shorter. I know you can ride like 5 cm shorter or something like that on some of the Burton boards so you might want to look into that some more. You're not screwed though lol. You'll find a board that you really love, you just need to look around somemore. Keep riding!

Thanks for the encouragement :)  The Burton ME NUG at 150cm So far seems to be the shortest board that could hold my weight. Now in terms of it's flex and manuverability for a newbie I'm not sure. I don't really know anyone who snowboards, Besides my Ski shop...lol

I am always over the weight limit for my board, so that's not a big deal. Certainly going on a men's board helps, since they have larger weight limits.

Anyway, I would stick to the smaller range. A really large board is going to be unwieldy when you are learning to turn.  I would not a get a Bullet - that's a wide board. The clash would probably be a better choice and it does come in a 151.

It seems to keep coming back to the clash which is perfeectly fine with me. It's still going for about $400 though even the 2010 model. I wonder what other boards/brands I could find for less since I am still a beginner. I'd like to spend a lot later on when I'm sure I'm going to stick with it for awhile.

Hey, I considered a Capita board for pow - aparently they come with slimmer waists than a lot of mens boards which will make them easier to turn. (I'm 5ft 1in the longest board I have is 149) The Libtech Skatebananas come in smaller lengths (start from 149) but are mens boards which might be worth a shout although they may fall out of your price range. The way i also understand it is, if you have a stiffer constructed board, these can support more weight at a smaller length, however, the issue there is they tend to be more difficult to ride. Ebay could be your friend in this case! Hope you find something and that you love it enough to stick with it!

Thanks for the suggestions! I did find out about the stiffer board the more support. I have also been looking on ebay. I did get in contact with someone at my local Burton store on their facebook page and they recommended the Burton Feather women's 152W. What you girls think of that board? The wide because I would prob be a size 9 in womens boot. I may just go on over to the burton store and check things out in the next few weeks.
