splitboard length advice?
hello,
i'm looking into buying the k2 panoramic splitboard and am not sure which length to choose.
i'm 168 cm tall (5 feet 6 i guess) and weigh about 60 kilograms (132 lbs). i ride a 148 k2 vavavoom on groomers, in the park and have also been freeriding with it, which was no problem at all.
the k2 panoramic comes in 154, 158, 162 and 168. originally, i wanted to get it in 154, but it seems really hard to find that length with fitting splitboard equipment somewhere... there's a german onlineshop which offers a full set including everything i need, but they only have the 158, 162 and 168 board...
what do you think - would the 158 be fine for me aswell? although i know that the longer the board, the better it floats, i'm a bit afraid because i haven't ridden such a long plank in a looong time ;)
any advice is greatly appreciated!
thanks!
i would agree with finding a stockists or even emailing K2 themselves. You thought about looking at other splitboard manufacturers such as prior etc..
thanks for your replies!
i have already e-mailed several shops, and the problem is, that while some might be able to get the 154 board for me, it would cost me about 400 euros more to get the complete package (with crampons, bindings and all that stuff) that i need for splitboarding, because those shops don't carry splitboard stuff, so i would have to order that seperately.
i'm not sure the 4cms length difference are worth 400 euros :/
k2 does not carry the crampons, bindings etc themselves, they just offer the board and the clip-on skins. that's the problem...
i don't get why the german splitboard shop is not willing to get the 154 board for me... maybe they have already ordered a bigger batch of boards in the other lengths and that's the reason why they are able to offer the whole set at such a good price (1300 euro)... that's the only good reason i can think of.
concerning other brands - yes, i have had a look at other boards aswell, but it's even harder to get those here in austria. k2 and jones are basically the only brands that are carried by a few shops, other brands are kind of exotic... and i'd like to be able to return the board without a lot of effort in case of any problems :/
i'm really surprised that it's this hard to get what i want... after all, the alps make up the biggest part of austrian land ;)
it is a bit of a joke sometimes when trying to find gear. I really wanted the GNU B-pro last season but couldnt find anywhere that stocked in the uk.
im surprised the german company wont help you get the board.. espcially if it means that they can sell it to you as a package for 1300 euros !!!! dont they know theres a recession going on
will they not sell you the components at the good price if you manage to get the board yourself.
i have no idea! they didn't even mention any alternatives or anything.. i found that not very customer-friendly, but oh well... seems like i will have to buy from them anways.
i'm gonna pick the 158 board... it's gonna work out somehow for sure, i'm an experienced rider... fingers crossed ;)
Hi All, haven't visited for awhile...cause kind of switched to skiing fatty twins; only made 6-7 runs last season of skiing 60 days. Don't know about the lenght but not many folks are doing a whole kit of split, bindings and skins. Since split is more of a diy and a speciality not many manufactures are going to put out a bunch of splits. Venture in colorado has a good rep for splits, Down the Middle (DTM) in utah has an excellent rep for custom spliting with edges laid in and sidewall buildup. As for bindings there is Volie, RD Sparks and now Karakoram is really hot. For skins there is Climbing Skins Direct and Black Diamond. So to get all the stuff its spendy but you can really get a custom kit.
just seen this splitboard if your still looking...
thanks, i already ordered the k2 panoramic :D
I think you'd be ok on a 158, but probably more comfortable on a 154. For what this board costs I'd try to get your hands on the board you want. Maybe try finding a shop that carries K2 and ask them if they'll special order it for you.
