If you fancy a free week at summer camp, Westbeach are running a contest to give away a week at Camp of Champions in Whistler.
To enter the contest, you need to let Westbeach know just how badly you want a place. You can send words, pictures, videos – whatever you think it’ll take. Send it to firstname.lastname@example.org before June 15.
If you win you’ll need to make your own way to Whistler though, as transport isn’t included.
For more info on Camp of Champions check out their website at www.campofchampions.com. Good luck!
A couple of years ago we found out a reality show was being cast at Whistler, but it seemed like nothing ever came of it. Now we’re finding out that MTV Canada is filming a new reality show at Whistler called "Peak Season".
Construction on the new Le Scandinave Spa Whistler is now underway. The Spa will bring Scandinavian-style baths to Whistler-Blackcomb, and will be located one mile north of Whistler Village. Construction is scheduled to finish in the fall of this year.
The collapse of one of the towers supporting Whistler Blackcomb’s Excalibur Gondola is being blamed on ‘ice-jacking’.
On Tuesday afternoon at 2.30pm a structural failure on tower 4 of the Excalibur gondola caused several cabins to drop approximately 30 feet and two hit the ground, injuring several people.
53 people had to be evacuated and 12 were treated at a local medical centre. All were able to leave later in the day.
A press release from the resort explains what happens:
“The structure of the tower is such that two parts are spliced together. Water had seeped into the lower section of the tower and turned to ice with the recent extreme cold temperatures.
At 2:30pm an Excalibur Gondola tower near the base of Blackcomb Mountain partially collapsed. Whistler RCMP reported that no gondola cars had fallen and there were no serious injuries.
Whistler’s new Peak to Peak Gondola is set to open Dec 12th!

Summer officially ended in the northern hemisphere at the weekend and bang on queue – it started snowing! Lucky Whistler got a 6 cm sprinkling overnight Sunday into Monday. Okay so it’s not enough to make you leap into the loft for your powder board but hopefully it’s a good omen. Only 65 days til the lifts open then…

The 28 cabins have arrived from Switzerland – including two with glass floors!
The 3 kilometre rope has been installed and later this month there are plans to send 12 cabins across the span from Blackcomb to the gondola’s Whistler base.
