Enni Rukajärvi Wins X Games Slopestyle Gold

PRESS RELEASE

The story of Winter X Games 15 thus far may be the success of the rookies. Saturday night, rookie Alex Schlopy took the top prize in Skiing Big Air and Sunday morning, fellow rookie Enni Rukajarvi took the gold in Women’s Snowboard Slopestyle.

With the win, Rukajarvi not only won her first medal, but she is the first female snowboarder from Finland to medal at Winter X Games.

As the season's high profile snowboarding contests wrap up, here are the girls we think deserve an extra pat on the back and a large margarita if we see them in a bar any time soon....

I bumped into 2009 X Games Slopestyle Gold Medalist Jenny Jones at the Salomon booth. I was with her when she noticed the writing on the display that said "Jenny Jones 2009 X-Games Gold Medalist". Jenny seemed a little shocked to see it in writing. I don't think her win had really sunk in yet!

I told her that our readers (you guys!) were really excited about her win. Jenny told me to give a shout out to Lucie and the whole Powderroom.net crew.

British rider Jenny Jones edged out Spencer O'Brien on her last run to claim X Games Gold in Women's Slopestyle. Jones went into her last run trailing O'Brien by 3 points.

Some big names will be missing from the Women's X Games Slopestyle final.  Last year's gold medal winner, Jamie Anderson, pulled out of the competition after being injured at the Burton European Open.  Other invited riders like Cheryl Maas and Jana Meyen also did not compete in the qualifiers. Leanne Pelosi failed to qualify.

In foggy conditions, Jenny Jones qualified first among the field of eleven women. The top six will compete in the Slopestyle finals on Saturday afternoon.

The results for the slopestyle elimitaion round are:

She's a busy lady, Miss Jones.

But Powderroom managed to catch up with her in Switzerland for a quick chat about the upcoming season.

Here's what she had to say...

"On Monday, I'm flying to Colorado. I'm spending three weeks riding in Breckenridge.

"There's a Mountain Dew Tour slopestyle contest at the end of it that I've been invited to. It'll be a nice, mellow start to the season.

"I'm back home for Christmas with the family, and then I'm out to Morzine for New Year.

"In January, I'm planning to ride with friends for a couple of weeks before the next competition - the Burton European Open in Switzerland.
