Roxy Announces Winners of First Powder Jam

When lots and lots of snow caused the slopestyle competition at the 2011 Roxy Chicken Jam at Mammoth Mountain to be cancelled, the event organizers got creative. The Roxy Powder Jam was a one day video competition sponsored by GoPro.

“This year’s Chicken Jam was a bit of a surprise for all of us. I don’t think I’ve ever seen weather conditions less ideal for a contest,’’ said Amber Stackhouse, Roxy Snow Team Manager. “Despite the weather, everyone loves riding powder with friends so we rolled with the punches and made use of the record snowfall for our first ever powder jam.”

Kelly Marren Wins Snowy Roxy Chicken Jam

Kelly Marren won the Roxy Chicken Jam halfpipe last weekend in a contest that was affected by heavy snow and wind. The slopestyle and mascot jams were cancelled due to weather.

Marren won with a run that included a frontside crippler and a Michaelchuck. Newcomers Leslie Glenn and 10-year-old Chloe Kim rounded out the podium.

With no slopestyle competition, the Chicken Jam organizers came up with a way to take advantage of the epic conditions - the Roxy Powder Jam sponsored by GoPro.

Kelly Clark Wins 7th Straight at US Grand Prix

Kelly Clark notched her seventh win in a row at the final US Grand Prix at Mammoth Mountain. Clark's halfpipe win setup what should be another epic battle for the overall TTR title at the US Open next weekend.

"This is definitely a big win for me. I came away with the Dew Tour title and the Grand Prix title now. I'm looking forward to next week and seeing if I can't step it up in the TTR and the Global Open series," Clark said.

Clark's winning run was a front 9, back 5, front 7, cab 7 and stalefish. She was followed by Gretchen Bleiler who landed her back 9. Canadian Sarah Conrad rounded out the podium.

Mammoth Opens for the Season

Mammoth Mountain opened for the season on Thursday with a dozen runs open. They had six lifts running and access to over 2,000 vertical feet.

Over 2200 people, including many industry and media folk, headed to Mammoth to get their season started. Recent snowstorms and snow making has given Mammoth a base of 12"-36" with more certainly on its way.

The Arbor guys know a little about product placement as they claim the first chair of the season.

Mammoth Mountain received their first fall snowstorm. They received a
dusting of snow from a storm that also left a coating of snow on some
Tahoe resorts.

Mammoth's opening date is November 11th so snow shredding is coming very soon!

Mammoth Extends Season to July 4th

Mammoth Mountain has just announced they are extending their operations until July 4th. They received over 41 feet of snow this season and currently have a base of 11 to 14 feet.“We have the best April snow conditions I’ve seen in my 32 years on the mountain. With as much snow as we have, our customers would riot if we closed down as early as the other ski resorts. K

Mammoth to Host Roxy Chicken Jam March 25-28

Mammoth will be hosting the 6th Annual Roxy Chicken Jam from March 25-28. This is the last major stop on the Ticket to Ride Tour for the ladies and will likely determine the winner! Olympic Gold Medalist Torah Bright will be competing, as well as Roxy riders Amber Stackhouse, Lisa Wiik and Kjersti Buaas. There's also an open-registration Qualifier for amateur riders to try to earn a spot against the pros.

In addition to the pro slopestyle and superpipe competitions with the $50,000 prize purse, there are plenty of activities for attendees.
