resort opening

Sunday River claimed the honors of being the first resort in the US to open on Saturday. With 19 hours of snowmaking, the Maine resort was able to open the T2 trail from the top to midmountain. This is the fourth year in a row that Sunday River is the first resort to open in the East and their first time as the first in the US.

“It goes to show the magnitude of our snowmaking system and level of commitment towards making this happen,” Brent Larson, VP of Mountain Operations for Sunday River, says. “We started snowmaking last night, worked nonstop and we’re skiing today, which is pretty incredible.”

Sunday River will be making snow as weather permits.

Mammoth Mountain will be opening on Friday, October 16 after a big snowstorm dropped over two feet of snow on the mountain.  This will be their second earliest opening ever.  To top it off lift tickets will be free on Friday!

“We are so excited to start the season nearly four weeks ahead of schedule and to be able to reward our guests with a free day on the slopes,” said Howard Pickett, Chief Marketing Officer of Mammoth Mountain. “Mammoth’s high elevation will pay off for skiers and snowboarders who have been anxiously awaiting the coming winter.”
