Perisher Resort in Australia renamed their halfpipe after Olympic Gold Medalist Torah Bright during the 2010 Australian Junior Series Halfpipe event last Saturday.  Perisher is the official training facility for the Olympic Institute of Australia.

Torah was on hand at the resort, where she spent much of her early career, for the ribbon cutting and to try out the pipe that now bears her name.

Torah Bright Named Ski & Snowboard Australia Athlete of the Year

Torah Bright has been named the the Ski & Snowboard Australian Athlete of the Year along with fellow gold medalist Lydia Lassila.

We recently told you about the Australian Post issuing a Torah Bright commemorative stamp. Now the Reserve Bank of Australia has one-upped the Australian Post by announcing they will be issuing a Torah Bright 20 cent coin. The coin will be produced by the Royal Australian Mint, which is located the Australian capital of Canberra.

"This coin breaks ground for the Mint, celebrating the success of our shining Olympic star Torah Bright.," the Assistant Treasurer, Senator Nick Sherry, said.

Torah Bright won the gold medal in the women's halfpipe competiton. After falling on her first run, Bright had to lead off the second run. She made a statement with a clean technical run including a backside 360, switch backside 720,  and cab 720 that put her in first place with 45 points.  Hannah Teter had taken the lead in the first run with a score of 42.4.

Kelly Clark fell on her first run, but put down a very strong run with big amplitude and clean tricks to take the Bronze medal.

Hannah Teter, who won Gold in Torino, was the final competitor and dropped in with a chance to unthrone Torah Bright. She put down a run with big air, but didn't have the tricks to top Torah and took Silver.

Rumors have been abounding that Torah Bright has been working on a double cork. We even heard that Torah was trying one in X-Games practice when she fell and hit her head leading to her withdrawal from the competition. Certainly if she landed one in any halfpipe competition, Bright would be extremely hard to beat.

TTR has just posted this video of Bright trying a double crippler while in New Zealand last year. She doesn't land it...but she sure looks close.
