I’m having a dilemma which I need to air. And it’s the age old (and old age) classic… To season or not to season Here’s the sitch: - Saved up and took a sabbatical last season - Really want to go back for another season and *may* be able to (probably will) scrape the money together but I’ll have to quit a lucractive job (that will get ‘lucrativer’ in January 05) that is funding me and Snow Valley Lodge. I’m having “should” thoughts about my job, being responsible and waiting till season after next (i.e. 05/06) and I can’t quite bring myself to make a final decision…. especially since I may be able to get away with doing one month (a combination of paid and unpaid leave) in 2004/05… *sigh* Any thoughts? |

Well I think there’s more to consider about your current job - Do you like it? Without knowing this, my practical side says to not do it and take the month off and go. Job markets are picking up but they’re not that good yet. And people aren’t getting paid as much as they used to. |

I would say go for the month trip and wait it out for the next season. I had to wait a year and a half in a crap job to do this season! Unfortunately I now can’t seem to get a job anywhere and it’s quite depressing Anyone need assistant management accountants????! |

Its a real toughie when your sensible side and “fun” side start arguing. I’d say the same as everyone else, do the month this time round and then tough it out at work until the 05/06 season. Damn, it makes me feel old saying that! |

You just know all the above makes sense! It’s obviously a case of head vs heart. Head says stay, earn the cash, be more secure, reap the benefits in a year. Heart says Sod It, Lets GO!!!, but you may pay the price next year if you can’t get the job you need on your return……. Which rules your world? Head or Heart? *For the record, I think you should stay, earn loadsa cash, and reap the rewards the following year. But then I would say that, cos I’m old |

Well, that’s 5 for 5… so I guess I’m staying! Thanks guys If I’m not going to be over there fulltime this year, I’d better get started sorting out SVL stuff!!! *scurries off to make loadsa calls* DoaS -> guess my head rules my heart and I’m not even old! |

WHAT ? Do the season. Do it now before you wake up one morning with knackered knees, a couple of kids and a strange regret that you missed an opportunity. In 10 years time whether you do the season or not will not make a huge amount of difference, but right now it does. If you forget the season this year because of a job one of two things will happen. 2 – you’ll hate the job, quit, and then realise you should have done the season after all. There’s only one choice. |

1. I went last season for 4 months. 2. I’m planning to visit Holly & Tina in NZ in 2005 (winter in south). 3. I want to quit and move out there for a year at the end of 2005. 4. I want to consolidate my SVL business before risking the cash flow by quitting my job. …. but I did buy an early bird season pass…. just in case If I don’t do the season, I will be out in Fernie for at least 3 weeks, maybe 4. |

well, obviously you want to make visiting NZ a priority! looking at all the stuff you want to do, it probably does make sense to stay on with your job – and as you say, you’ll still get to go out there for a few weeks looks as though there is going to be lots of people coming over next year – cool! |

Well of course it’s a priority! Wouldn’t miss it for the world and I may end up doing slightly less boarding that originally planned but the point of the trip is to visit you and Holly… and snowboarding is an additional benefit! |

yes… Holly will go insisting i learn to board so we can go boarding together – then finding ‘excuses’ to not go boarding – which i guess will apply to a slightly lesser degree next year too |

It’s not like you’re letting the rat race rule your life, after all. You’ll have a good few weeks this year, and you had a full season last year, plus you’ll be able to spend more and more time in Fernie as SVL starts to settle down… If my emigration plans fall through I’m going to spend the money I saved on a season somewhere, but in the meantime I’m working and going on two week holidays instead. It’s all about the pay-off to come… |

I’m hoping someone else will make the decision for me…. like my job suddenly becomes as sh*t as it was last year or getting a nice redundancy cheque or Pete saying we’re going… Oh I’ll definitely be out there… hopefully for a nice long time… I’m not sure anyone can keep Tom in line |
